Cesium carbonate is an inorganic compound that exists as a white solid under standard temperature and pressure. It is highly soluble in water and rapidly absorbs moisture when exposed to air. Aqueous solutions of cesium carbonate are strongly alkaline and can react with acids to form corresponding cesium salts and water, releasing carbon dioxide in the process. Due to its ease of transformation, it serves as a precursor for other cesium salts and is widely used across various cesium salt applications.

Application

Cesium carbonate can serve as a modifying layer between the active layer and Al electrode in solar cells, enhancing device conversion efficiency by forming an Al-O-Cs compound. This reduces the series resistance of the cell, increases short-circuit current and photoelectric conversion efficiency. Due to the inherent compactness of the cesium carbonate layer, the device stability is also significantly improved. The strong metallic n-type heavy doping effect of cesium in cesium carbonate enables the Al/CsCO cathode modified with a cesium carbonate nano-interface to greatly enhance electron injection and substantially improve the performance of inverted top-emitting OLED devices. Cesium carbonate is also used as a catalyst in the synthesis of alkyl aryl ethers.
